Unit 1: In the Beginning

Week 7. Good Rules

God’s rules are a gift that help us love him and each other.

Memory verse

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Deuteronomy 6:5 (KJV)

Read together

Read the Bible passage: Exodus 19 and 20.

Picture story: God’s Good Rules

The picture story is written for ages 3 to 8. Older children can enjoy it too, or read the Bible passage in their own Bible.

Talk about it

  • Which of the ten do you find hardest to take seriously? Why?
  • How can rules lead to freedom?

Do it

Choose one commandment and write down a practical way to live it this week.

Pray

God, help me to see your rules as a gift, and not as a weight.

For the leader

Frame the commandments as care, not a list of don’ts.

You will need: Paper and pens, a small fence or blocks.
