Jesus Calms the Storm

Bible passage: Mark 4 · Ages 3 to 5 · New Testament

Paraphrase One evening, Jesus and his friends got into a boat to sail across the lake.

Paraphrase Jesus was tired, and he fell asleep in the back of the boat.

Paraphrase Then a big storm came. The wind howled, and the waves splashed into the boat.

Paraphrase The friends were scared. They woke Jesus. Don’t you care that we might sink?

Paraphrase Jesus stood up and said to the wind and the waves, Peace! Be still!

Paraphrase At once, everything was calm. The friends were amazed. Even the wind and waves listen to him!

From the Bible (King James Version)

Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Mark 4:39 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

What helps you feel calm when you are scared?

One small thing to do

Take three slow breaths together, and say, Peace, be still.

Retold in simple words (a paraphrase), so it is not the Bible’s own text. The read-aloud voice is computer-made. Jesus is never shown with a face. Nothing you do here is saved or sent anywhere.
