The Baby Jesus

Bible passage: Luke 2 · Ages 3 to 5 · New Testament

Paraphrase Mary and Joseph went on a long trip to a town called Bethlehem. Mary rode on a little donkey.

Paraphrase When they got there, the town was full. No one had a room for them.

Paraphrase At last, a kind person said, You can stay in the place where we keep the animals.

Paraphrase That night, baby Jesus was born. Mary wrapped him up warm and laid him in a manger.

Paraphrase The animals were quiet. Mary and Joseph smiled. They knew this baby was a gift from God.

Paraphrase God sent Jesus to show us how much he loves us. And that is the first Christmas.

From the Bible (King James Version)

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger

Luke 2:7 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

Who do you think was glad to see the baby?

One small thing to do

Look at a nativity scene, or draw one, and tell the story to someone.

Retold in simple words (a paraphrase), so it is not the Bible’s own text. The read-aloud voice is computer-made. Jesus is never shown with a face. Nothing you do here is saved or sent anywhere.
