Unit 1: In the Beginning
Week 12. David, the Shepherd Boy
God cares for us like a shepherd, and gives us courage.
Memory verse
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 23:1 (KJV)
Read together
Read the Bible passage: 1 Samuel 16 and 17; Psalm 23.
Picture story: David the Shepherd Boy
The picture story is written for ages 3 to 8. Older children can enjoy it too, or read the Bible passage in their own Bible.
Talk about it
- What do you think gave David his courage?
- What is a giant you are facing?
Do it
Write the name of a “giant” on a paper, then write how you can face it with God.
Pray
God, help us to face our giants, knowing you are with us.
For the leader
Use the story of Goliath carefully: the focus is trust, not winning.
You will need: A stick or ruler for a staff, cotton wool for sheep.
