Unit 1: In the Beginning
Week 4. Joseph and the Coat
God can bring good out of hard things, and forgiveness sets us free.
Memory verse
God meant it unto good
Genesis 50:20 (KJV, excerpt)
Read together
Read the Bible passage: Genesis 37 to 50.
Picture story: Joseph and the Colourful Coat
The picture story is written for ages 3 to 8. Older children can enjoy it too, or read the Bible passage in their own Bible.
Talk about it
- Where have you seen God bring something good out of something painful?
- Is there someone you struggle to forgive?
Do it
Write a letter to someone you need to forgive. You do not have to send it.
Pray
God, I give you my hurt. Help me to forgive, and to be free.
For the leader
Be honest that Joseph’s family was unkind; the point is how he responded.
You will need: Scraps of coloured paper or fabric.
