The Wise and Foolish Builders

Bible passage: Matthew 7 · Ages 6 to 8 · New Testament

Paraphrase Jesus told a story to the people on the hillside, about two builders.

Paraphrase The first builder was wise. He dug down deep, and he built his house on solid rock.

Paraphrase It took a long time, and it was a lot of hard work.

Paraphrase The second builder was in a hurry. He built his house on soft sand. It was quick and easy.

Paraphrase Then the rain fell, and the floods rose. The wind blew hard against the house on the rock. But it stood firm.

Paraphrase The wind and rain beat against the house on the sand, and it fell down with a crash.

Paraphrase Jesus said that when we hear his words and do them, we are like the wise builder, and we can stand strong.

From the Bible (King James Version)

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock

Matthew 7:24 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

What do you think it means to build your life on a rock?

One small thing to do

Build a small tower on a hard table, then on a soft pillow. What do you notice?
