The Widow’s Coins

Bible passage: Mark 12 · Ages 6 to 8 · New Testament

Paraphrase One day Jesus and his friends sat near the place where people gave money to help others.

Paraphrase Rich people came by, and put in lots of coins. Clink, clink, clink! It made a big noise.

Paraphrase Then a poor woman came. She had very little money. She walked slowly, up to the box.

Paraphrase She put in two tiny coins. It was all she had. Plink, plink. They made hardly any sound at all.

Paraphrase Jesus called his friends over. This woman gave more than anyone else, he said.

Paraphrase The rich people gave from what they had left over. But she gave everything, because she trusted God to take care of her.

Paraphrase God cares about the heart behind a gift, not how big it is.

From the Bible (King James Version)

this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury

Mark 12:43 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

What is something small that you could give?

One small thing to do

Give something small, like a drawing or a kind word, with all your heart.

Retold in simple words (a paraphrase), so it is not the Bible’s own text. The read-aloud voice is computer-made. Jesus is never shown with a face. Nothing you do here is saved or sent anywhere.
