The Farmer and the Seeds

Bible passage: Mark 4 · Ages 3 to 5 · New Testament

Paraphrase Jesus told a story about a farmer who went out to plant seeds.

Paraphrase Some seeds fell on the path. The hungry birds came and ate them up.

Paraphrase Some seeds fell on rocky ground. They grew a little, but they had no deep roots, so they dried up in the sun.

Paraphrase Some seeds fell among thorny weeds. The weeds grew tall, and there was no room for the seeds.

Paraphrase But some seeds fell on good, soft soil. They grew up tall and strong, and they made lots of good grain.

Paraphrase Jesus said that his words are like seeds. When we listen with open hearts, good things grow.

From the Bible (King James Version)

But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit

Matthew 13:8 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

What do you think a good listener does?

One small thing to do

Plant a seed or bean in a cup, and watch it grow.
