The Loving Father

Bible passage: Luke 15 · Ages 6 to 8 · New Testament

Paraphrase Jesus told a story about a father with two sons. The younger son said, Dad, I want to leave and see the world.

Paraphrase The father was sad, but he let him go. The son walked away, down the long road.

Paraphrase The son spent all his money having a great time. But soon the money was gone, and so were his friends.

Paraphrase Now he was hungry and alone. He had to feed pigs for a job. He thought, At home, even the servants have enough to eat.

Paraphrase I will go home, and say sorry, he decided. So he started to walk back.

Paraphrase While he was still far away, his father saw him. He ran down the road, and he hugged his son tight.

Paraphrase The father said, My son was lost and now he is found! Let’s have a party! Jesus said that God loves us just like that.

From the Bible (King James Version)

But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

Luke 15:20 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

How do you think the son felt when his father ran to him?

One small thing to do

Welcome someone home today with a big hug.
