Peter Walks on the Water

Bible passage: Matthew 14 · Ages 6 to 8 · New Testament

Paraphrase One night, Jesus’ friends were out in a boat on the lake. A strong wind was blowing against them.

Paraphrase The waves were big, and they were far from the shore. They felt scared and tired.

Paraphrase In the dark, they saw someone coming towards them across the water! They cried out in fear. But it was Jesus.

Paraphrase Jesus said, Take courage. It is I. Do not be afraid.

Paraphrase Peter said, Lord, if it is you, tell me to come to you on the water. Jesus said, Come. And Peter stepped out of the boat!

Paraphrase Peter walked on the water. But then he looked at the big waves, and he felt afraid, and began to sink.

Paraphrase Jesus reached out his hand at once and caught him. They climbed into the boat together, and the wind stopped.

From the Bible (King James Version)

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him

Matthew 14:31 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

When do you need someone to catch you?

One small thing to do

Hold hands with someone and say, I’ve got you.
