Naaman and the River

Bible passage: 2 Kings 5 · Ages 6 to 8 · Old Testament

Paraphrase Naaman was a famous army commander, but he had a bad skin sickness, and no one could help him.

Paraphrase A little girl who worked in his house said, There is a prophet in my country who can help you.

Paraphrase Naaman set out on a long journey, and he came to the prophet’s house.

Paraphrase The prophet did not even come out. He sent a message: Go and wash in the Jordan River seven times.

Paraphrase Naaman was angry. Is that all? I thought there would be something grand! He turned to go home.

Paraphrase His servants said, If the prophet had asked for something hard, you would have done it. Why not try something simple? So Naaman went to the river.

Paraphrase He washed seven times, and his skin became clean and new. He was so glad that he thanked God.

From the Bible (King James Version)

and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

2 Kings 5:14 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

Why do you think Naaman did not want to listen at first?

One small thing to do

Listen carefully to someone smaller or younger than you today.

Retold in simple words (a paraphrase), so it is not the Bible’s own text. The read-aloud voice is computer-made. Jesus is never shown with a face. Nothing you do here is saved or sent anywhere.
