The Walls of Jericho

Bible passage: Joshua 6 · Ages 6 to 8 · Old Testament

Paraphrase Joshua led God’s people to a city called Jericho. It had very tall, thick walls, and its gates were shut tight.

Paraphrase How could they get in? God gave Joshua a plan. It was a strange plan, but Joshua listened.

Paraphrase Every day for six days, the people marched quietly around the city, one time each day. They did not shout.

Paraphrase On the seventh day they got up early. This time they marched around seven times.

Paraphrase Then Joshua said, Shout! For God has given you the city! And everyone shouted at the top of their voices.

Paraphrase The great walls fell down. God had kept his promise, just as he said.

Paraphrase The people learned that when God gives a plan, it is best to listen and trust him, even when it seems strange.

From the Bible (King James Version)

Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.

Joshua 6:16 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

Why do you think it was hard to wait six days?

One small thing to do

Do something quietly for one minute (like walking in a circle), then shout Hooray!
