Follow Me

Bible passage: Luke 5 · Ages 6 to 8 · New Testament

Paraphrase Simon was a fisherman. He and his friends had worked all night on the lake, and they had caught nothing.

Paraphrase In the morning, they were tired, and they were washing their nets on the shore.

Paraphrase Jesus came along, with a crowd of people who wanted to listen. He asked if he could use Simon’s boat to teach from.

Paraphrase Afterwards, Jesus said, Take your boat out into the deep water, and let down your nets.

Paraphrase Simon said, We tried all night and caught nothing. But because you say so, I will do it. And suddenly the nets were so full of fish that they began to tear!

Paraphrase Simon and his friends could not believe it. Jesus said, Do not be afraid. From now on you will be fishing for people.

Paraphrase They pulled their boats up onto the shore, left everything, and followed Jesus.

From the Bible (King James Version)

Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Matthew 4:19 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

Why do you think the fishermen left their nets?

One small thing to do

Try one thing you have never tried before, with someone you trust.
