Esther the Brave Queen

Bible passage: Esther 2 to 8 · Ages 6 to 8 · Old Testament

Paraphrase Esther was a young woman who followed God. She was chosen to be queen, and she lived in a beautiful palace.

Paraphrase Her cousin Mordecai heard some bad news. A man named Haman was planning something terrible for Esther’s people.

Paraphrase Esther was afraid. The king had not called for her. Going to him without being invited could be very risky.

Paraphrase Mordecai said, Maybe you became queen for just such a time as this. Esther made up her mind. She asked everyone to pray for her.

Paraphrase Then Esther walked bravely to see the king. He smiled, and he held out his hand to welcome her.

Paraphrase Esther told the king the truth. The king was angry that anyone would harm her people, and he made it right.

Paraphrase Esther’s people were safe. They remembered her courage with joy, and they still do today.
