The Walk to Emmaus

Bible passage: Luke 24 · Ages 6 to 8 · New Testament

Paraphrase On Easter afternoon, two friends of Jesus were walking home to a village called Emmaus. They felt sad and puzzled.

Paraphrase As they walked and talked, a stranger came up and walked with them. It was Jesus, but they did not know him.

Paraphrase What are you talking about? the stranger asked. They told him everything that had happened, and how sad they were.

Paraphrase The stranger explained what the Bible said about the promised king. They listened carefully, and their hearts began to feel warm.

Paraphrase When they came to the village, it was nearly dark. Please stay with us, they said.

Paraphrase At supper, the stranger took the bread, and thanked God, and broke it. Suddenly they knew him: it was Jesus!

Paraphrase They hurried back to tell their friends the good news. Jesus is alive, and he was with us all along!

From the Bible (King James Version)

Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way

Luke 24:32 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

How do you think the two friends felt when they knew it was Jesus?

One small thing to do

Go for a walk and talk together about something that makes you glad.
