The Garden on Easter Morning

Bible passage: John 20 · Ages 6 to 8 · New Testament

Paraphrase Jesus’ friends were very sad. They had watched him die, and now it was a quiet, dark, lonely time.

Paraphrase Very early on Sunday morning, a woman named Mary went to the garden where Jesus had been laid. It was still dark.

Paraphrase When she got there, she saw that the huge stone had been rolled away. The tomb was open, and it was empty.

Paraphrase She cried. Then two angels spoke to her. Why are you crying?

Paraphrase She turned around, and someone was standing behind her. It was Jesus, alive! He said her name: Mary.

Paraphrase Mary was overjoyed. Jesus was alive! She ran to tell the others.

Paraphrase She said, I have seen the Lord! This is the good news that we celebrate at Easter: Jesus is alive.

From the Bible (King James Version)

He is not here, but is risen

Luke 24:6 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

Why do you think Mary ran to tell her friends?

One small thing to do

Tell someone the Easter good news, or plant a flower.

Retold in simple words (a paraphrase), so it is not the Bible’s own text. The read-aloud voice is computer-made. Jesus is never shown with a face. Nothing you do here is saved or sent anywhere.
