The Boy’s Lunch

Bible passage: John 6 · Ages 3 to 5 · New Testament

Paraphrase Jesus was teaching a big crowd on a green hillside. They listened all day long.

Paraphrase Soon it was late, and the people were hungry. There was no place nearby to buy food.

Paraphrase A boy was there with his lunch: five small loaves of bread and two little fish. He offered it to Jesus.

Paraphrase Jesus took the bread and the fish, and thanked God for them.

Paraphrase Then they passed the food around. And there was enough for everyone!

Paraphrase Everyone ate until they were full, and there were even baskets of food left over. A small gift had become a big one.

From the Bible (King James Version)

There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes

John 6:9 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

How do you think the boy felt when he shared his lunch?

One small thing to do

Share something small with someone today.

Retold in simple words (a paraphrase), so it is not the Bible’s own text. The read-aloud voice is computer-made. Jesus is never shown with a face. Nothing you do here is saved or sent anywhere.
