Bartimaeus Calls Out

Bible passage: Mark 10 · Ages 6 to 8 · New Testament

Paraphrase Bartimaeus was a man who could not see. He sat by the road every day, asking for help.

Paraphrase One day, he heard a big crowd coming. What is happening? he asked. Jesus is passing by!

Paraphrase Bartimaeus called out, Jesus, please help me! The people said, Be quiet! But he called even louder.

Paraphrase Jesus stopped. He said, Call him over. The people said, Cheer up! He is calling you!

Paraphrase Bartimaeus jumped up, threw off his coat, and came to Jesus. What do you want me to do for you? Jesus asked.

Paraphrase Bartimaeus said, I want to see. Jesus said, Go on your way. Your faith has made you well.

Paraphrase At once, Bartimaeus could see. He followed Jesus down the road, praising God, and everyone who saw it praised God too.

From the Bible (King James Version)

immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

Mark 10:52 (KJV, excerpt)

Let us wonder

Why do you think Bartimaeus kept on calling out?

One small thing to do

Say a prayer for someone who needs help today.

Retold in simple words (a paraphrase), so it is not the Bible’s own text. The read-aloud voice is computer-made. Jesus is never shown with a face. Nothing you do here is saved or sent anywhere.
