Deserts and rain
Read together
A desert is dry. Very little rain falls.
Plants and animals there save water.
Do it
- Look at pictures of a desert and of a rainforest. Name what is the same and what is different.
- Feel a sponge when dry and when wet. A cactus stores water like a sponge.
- Draw a desert animal, such as a camel, and say how it copes with little water.
- Remember to thank God for water and drink some.
Talk about it
- Why do desert plants store water?
- What is different in a rainforest?
For the grown-up
Deserts are places with very little rain, not always hot sand. Some, such as parts of Antarctica, are cold. Many people live in deserts. Always drink water in hot places.
