A family timeline
Read together
A timeline is a line of events in order.
Let us make one for our family.
Do it
- Take a long strip of paper or a piece of string. Mark “then” on the left and “now” on the right.
- Add three or four family events with photos or drawings: a wedding, your child's birth, a new home, a first birthday.
- Say each one in order: “First, then, next, now.”
- Hang it on a wall and add to it each year.
Talk about it
- What happened first?
- What would you like to add next year?
For the grown-up
A timeline helps children understand “before” and “after”. A family timeline is also a way to tell family faith stories, such as baptisms or first communions, if they are part of your family.
