made in the image of God

The Christian teaching, from Genesis 1, that every person bears God's likeness, so each life has a worth that is given, not earned or produced.

Genesis 1:27 says that God created humankind in his own image. Christian traditions explain the idea in different ways: as reason, as relationship, as a calling to care for creation, or simply as the dignity every person carries.

What they share is the conviction that a person's worth does not depend on usefulness, skill or output. It is given before anyone achieves anything.
