Week 2: Identity · Day 14 of 30

Day 14: Week two: who you are, again

← All days

Reflect

You have reached the end of week two. If the first week was about honesty, this one has been about identity: a slow and sometimes uncomfortable question of who you are when the usual answers are not available.

Look back over the week. You have been invited to think of yourself as made, called by name, beloved before useful, more than your roles, not ranked by comparison, and shaped by one voice more than the rest. You may not have felt all of that. That is all right. These are not feelings you can order up. They are truths to lean on, and sometimes you lean before you feel.

Today's verse brings together two things that people sometimes pull apart. It says we are God's workmanship, which is a word about being made with care, like something crafted. And it says we are created for good works that God has prepared in advance for us to walk in. Identity comes first, and then purpose. You are made, and then you are sent.

That ordering gives us a way into next week. If you are God's workmanship, there is probably something he has made you for. Not a perfect job title, and not a grand mission, but a way of bringing good into the world that fits you. Next week we will look for it, gently.

For today there is nothing to accomplish. Read over your answers if you have kept them. Notice what has shifted, even a little. You can mark this day done, make your week two card if you like, and let the question of purpose wait until tomorrow.

Verse

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)

Journal

Of everything I have written this week, what feels most true about who I am? What do I want to remember when the doubts come back?

One small action

Choose one sentence from this week's answers and write it on a card or note. Put it somewhere you will see it every day. Make your week two card if you would like one.

A 60-second breath prayer

Breathe in: “I am your workmanship”

Breathe out: “show me the good you have prepared”

Breathe slowly for about a minute, saying the first line as you breathe in and the second as you breathe out.

Make your week 2 card
